People tend to hide behind words on facebook- they are incredibly sensitive and will say whatever they want... something they wouldn't do to your face. For instance, we put up a post last year a customer asked us to design- "Eat to live, don't live to eat." I assume she needed some inspiration since it was close to New Years, and I honestly, thought this was a great quote! I mocked up four versions and put it up on facebook to have our awesome fans tell us which one should go on the site (customer's request). You would be astounded by the vicious things our fans said to each other when voting for this photo- things like "shut up cow" and "people can eat whatever they want- you shouldn't dictate that." WOW.
Balancing out what people will respond to and NOT attack each other is a hard thing to do. Posting something awesome daily is a hard thing to do. Keeping people engaged and commenting is a hard thing to do. BUT I rocked it- I totally did. With a lot of research, engaging fans, replying to everyone and a smidge of paid advertising we are now over 30,000 fans. Yes, I am patting myself on the back, yes, I am happy. No... I will not stop here.
Our facebook is a beautiful platform for our customers to share their photos, stories, questions and thoughts with us. We love to interact and see how our Fans are impacted by what we do- I don't want you to read my earlier ranting as our facebook fans are terrible- they aren't, they are honest and sometimes a bit brutal to each other and occasionally us (if we put up a design they dislike for some reason), but they are our bread and butter- the reason we are here and the reason we continue. Hearing stories on our facebook page about how our decals have impacted someone's life is an amazing thing.
One fan/customer shared the story about her daughter who used to have this favorite quote (and for the life of me I can't think of it right now, this was years ago), and her daughter had a terrible accident and was in a coma in the hospital. This woman bought her daughter's quote from us (we custom made it since we didn't have it on the site- a service we do for FREE-fifty-free) and put it above the hospital bed. She told us that people came in often to visit and were always moved by the quote there- a few people, even to tears. This is why we are in business. This is why we love our fans. This is why we do what we do.
I am happier than a kid in a candy store that we are finally at over 30,000 fans- and I won't be this happy again until we are at 50,000- this number directly represents that people like our company and want to be a part of it. We are not successful if that number becomes stagnant.
I feel like this.
My daughter shows it better than I can :)
